Trackable QR codes for businesses that don't have a website

A lot of businesses in India run on a shop counter, a WhatsApp number and a stack of printed flyers. There’s no website, and there doesn’t need to be one. But the flyer still raises the same question as any ad: did it work?

Mitr now has QR campaigns for exactly that. You make a QR code in the dashboard, print it, and Mitr tells you how many people scanned it, where, on what phone, and who left their details. The code can point at almost anything a phone can open, so the business doesn’t need a site to benefit.

One QR code, many destinations

When you create a campaign you pick what a scan does:

DestinationWhat the scanner gets
Website linkAny https:// page, including a page you already have
WhatsApp chatA chat with your number, optionally with a message already typed
Phone callTheir dialler, ready to call
SMS or emailA message to you, pre-addressed
MapDirections to your shop
Google reviewYour review page
UPI paymentA payment request to your UPI ID
App storeYour app’s listing
A ready-made formA short page that asks for their details

The form option is for people who want leads but have nothing to send people to. There are five templates: enquiry, request a call back, feedback, RSVP, and claim an offer. You pick one and it works. It’s not a form builder: you can’t add your own fields yet, which keeps the page short enough that people actually finish it.

One campaign, one code per place

A campaign is the thing you’re running (“Diwali offer”). A placement is each place you put the code (“Andheri stall”, “Station flyer”, “Shop window”). Every placement gets its own QR code, so you can tell which flyer pulled people in rather than just that the campaign did.

You can change where a campaign points at any time. The code on paper never changes, so a printed poster keeps working even if you later switch from a form to a WhatsApp chat.

What you see

Open a campaign and you get:

  • Scans and an estimate of unique scanners
  • Scans over time, plus the busiest hours and days, in your own timezone (Indian time by default)
  • Placements compared side by side
  • Devices, operating systems, browsers and cities
  • Leads, if you used a form, with a CSV download

For website destinations, Mitr also tags the link with utm_source=qr, plus your campaign and placement names. If your site already runs Mitr or any other analytics, the visits show up there attributed to the right flyer. If you’ve already put your own utm_ tags on the link, we leave them alone.

The form asks for a name and a phone number or email, and it has a tick-box that is unticked by default. Nothing is stored unless the person ticks it and submits. A form that’s opened but never submitted creates no lead. That’s deliberate: it’s the same cookie-free, consent-first approach as the rest of Mitr, and it’s what you’ll want to be able to show a customer who asks why they got a message. We explain how the counting works in How we count QR scans without cookies.

New leads can also be sent straight to your other tools through a webhook. See QR leads to WhatsApp, Slack and your CRM.

Making the code look right

Codes are downloadable as SVG, which is what a printer wants, or as PNG. The free plan puts the Mitr logo in the middle of the code. Paid plans can remove it, and the higher plans can use your own logo instead. Whichever you choose, the error correction is raised when a logo is present so the code still scans reliably.

Try it

You can set up a campaign in a few minutes from QR Campaigns in the dashboard. Start free: the free plan includes a starter allowance of campaigns, codes and recorded scans, and each paid plan raises it.

A scan that goes over your plan’s recorded-scan allowance still works: the person still reaches your destination. We just stop storing new scan details until the month turns over.

Frequently asked questions

Can I track a QR code without a website?

Yes. A Mitr QR code can open a WhatsApp chat, a phone call, a map, your Google review page, a UPI payment request or a short form hosted by Mitr, so the business does not need a website. Every scan is counted in the dashboard.

What can I see about people who scan my QR code?

Scans and an estimate of unique scanners, when they scanned, the country and city, and the device type, operating system and browser. You only see a name, phone number or email if the person fills in the form and ticks the consent box.

Does the QR code change if I change the destination?

No. The code on paper stays the same. You can change where it leads at any time, for example from a form to a WhatsApp chat, without reprinting.

Is there a free plan?

Yes. The free plan includes a starter allowance of campaigns, codes and recorded scans, and the free plan puts the Mitr logo in the centre of the code. Paid plans raise the allowance and can remove or replace the logo.
